The one thing I am passionate about...
I'm passionate about becoming the best person I can be, the one I was meant to be, by continually striving to improve myself physically, intellectually, and spiritually. I'm passionate about taking care of the earth with which we have been entrusted. Im passionate about making the most of the opportunities that come my way. And Im passionate about living my life as if each day were my last, because someday it will be. And when I stand before my Creator at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, "I used everything you gave me."
I typically spend my leisure time
While the weather is warm, I enjoy swimming and bicycling, the first two legs of a triathlon for which I am training. Once it turns cold, I head for the gym and the equipment there. For hobbies, I enjoy reading, creative writing, doing crossword puzzles, sewing, quilting, and knitting. I also like to have friends over and cook a good meal, then relax over coffee or tea, maybe play a game, while having good conversation.
The most influential person in my life has been
I'm looking for a man with integrity (defined as "doing the right thing even when no one is looking"), who has a sense of humor, and shares some of my interests or is willing to teach me some of his. (Yes, I know that's more than one, but I've always been an over-achiever. Someone has to set the bar.)
The first thing people notice about me
I'm a bit on the quiet side when in a new environment, situation, or when meeting a new person for the first time. I tend to watch and listen more than I speak, because I know I can't learn anything when I'm doing all the talking. As I get to know them (you?), I relax more and my sense of humor comes out. Pretty soon they (you?) will find I tend to see things through the filter of humor as often as possible. Life's too short to take it so seriously--you need to laugh when you can!
The last book I read and enjoyed
I'm working my way through "A Hand to Guide Me" by Denzel Washington, published by the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. As his first published work, Denzel Washingotn shares his personal story of growing up and the guiding hands who helped to shape his life. The 73 other stories included echo his message that one helping hand can indeed change the world. Contibutors include Hank Aaron, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Whoopi Goldberg, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Anna Kournikova, Colin Powell, Cal Ripkin, Jr., and many more. I find this type of book is best read one chapter at a sitting, and then take some time to reflect on what I read.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- My family of origin was loving, stable, and loyal.
- My three (grown) children are all productive members of society.
- I have a few good friends who love me as I am, but challenge me to become the person I could be.
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
Nothing really. I'm pretty much a WYSIWYG person. I realize it takes time to get to know a person and I'm content to let that happen slowly, at a natural pace. I don't want a false sense of imtimacy born of sharing too many details too soon.

A little more about me
As a teacher, I am fortunate because I have a portable skill. Generally speaking, I can find work most anywhere. I mention this because I am open to relocating if I meet someone and we get to where we don't want to be so far away from each other. Please don't dismiss me just because I don't live in your neck of the woods. Who knows? You might be just what I was looking for, and I might turn out to be "practically perfect in every way," or at least okay after all. (25 Bonus Points if you can place the quote.) :D
