More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

Traveling!! I love learning about other cultures. I've been to India, Hong Kong, Thailand, Brazil & Peru and will be going to Spain & South Africa in '08. I love the arts and go to lots of plays and museums: live music in the park in summer is a wonderful pastime -- and I go to lots of music festivals. I am an indie and film festival buff. I want young folks to be all that God intended them to be and to not let other folks limit how they view their possibilities. Many youth (especially African American) have had their dreams crushed before they reach adolescence because their curiosity has been squelched or channeled into narrow boxes.

I typically spend my leisure time

I take at least one major trip abroad a year; however, I love to take day trips since the Bay Area is so diverse and beautiful. I love the arts & listening to music -- mostly jazz, but I also love R&B and old school. I love eating out -- not so much for the food (I do enjoy drinking wine); but for the buzz of the atmosphere and ambience. I would like to resume my outdoor activities. I used to hike & water ski and I've started learning to snow ski. My bike's rusty. I watch lots of movies and love to talk about the plot, characters, etc. I'm also a voracious reader -- novels, magazines, business. I cook for holidays and entertaining.

The most influential person in my life has been

A sensitive and honest awareness and assessment of who he is as a man and a human being. He can communicate (in serious and light ways) how life's circumstances and his choices have shaped who he is and is still striving to become.

The first thing people notice about me

My Smile

The last book I read and enjoyed

There are 3: The Kite Runner - an intimate look at the chaotic changes in Afghanistan and in the lives of 2 men (the one most free/brilliant was the one in servitude). All Aunt Hagar's Children - prolific short stories giving stellar glimpses of African American life written by a genius. One Drop - a true story of race and identity by a woman who discovered that her dad was an African American passing as white.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. I am most thankful for my spiritual beliefs. my faith has allowed me to know and love myself and others as they are and hope to be
  2. My family and friends: I love my daughter, 22, a college senior who is the apple of my eye and I am honored to be her Mom.
  3. Just being me: I can still be very intellectual, adventurous, inquisitive and even playful. I find good in most things.

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

I'm really shy; I just have a strong persona. Much more lievely and engaging in 1:1 conversations than in a crowd. I can appear too cool and together to be approached.

Friends Describe me as

Articulate, Intelligent, Perceptive, Spiritual

A little more about me

This is my first time using a on-line social network. I really want to meet someone who wants a committed relationship, shares my interests and my spiritual beliefs. (The 1st two have been much easier than the latter.)
