The one thing I am passionate about...
I approach so many things with passion, it's hard to define all of them, but top areas that I bring gusto to include my artistic endeavors; watching/listening to/following Major League Baseball (AL East); hostessing (cooking, decorating, setting up elaborate ways of making guests feel how special an occasion is); my faith; being a well-informed person (reading books, editing writing, and trying to keep current in news magazines); learning; culture (visiting art museums, attending lectures or other cultural events).
I typically spend my leisure time
If it's nice outside (I'm pretty lenient on the definition of "nice"), I like to be outdoors. I used to live in cold, cold Maine, so I know how to keep myself entertained when it's nasty outside--like reading tons of magazines and books, painting, cooking, and working on an endless collection of craft projects.
The most influential person in my life has been
Anytime I think I know what I want, I find that I'm wrong. God has a sense of humor on that point.
The first thing people notice about me
Generally, people notice that I'm friendly and outgoing. Upon occasion, I'm shy when I am being introduced to others, but for the most part, I'm eager to meet new people and make new friends. I studied journalism in college and took several reporting classes (to be a newspaper reporter), so I am fairly adept at starting conversations. I have to catch myself though and make sure I'm not conducting an interview instead of a chat!
The last book I read and enjoyed
The Ask Jeeves series by P.G. Wodehouse is an excellent source of humorous stories. The tales are light, ridiculous and from a completely different era. The main characters are relics from era that is long gone (idle British aristocrats from the turn of the 20th century). I don't know why I like the stories so much, but they are very amusing and extremely light.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- Rough times in my life which have forced me to grow in depth, patience, strength of character.
- A strong sense of family, where I came from, the warmth, love and support of my nuclear family.
- A deep relationship with God, a faith that is rich in history, tradition and crosses all cultures.
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
Sometimes my dry sense of humor and fun-loving personality block people from seeing that I'm sweet and compassionate.
