More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I am a very family-oriented person. Growing up as an only child (don't hold it against me!) made me very close with my parents and the rest of my family. I love traveling and learning about different cultures. I'm also very passionate about working with kids. I have been very lucky in my life to work with children in the developing world. This is really where my passion is.

I typically spend my leisure time

If you've read this far, you realize that I love to travel. Since I work in international health, I've had the opportunity to do this quite a bit, but there are many other places I would love to explore one day. I like spending time with family and friends, whether that means having a bbq, or watching a movie or just hanging out and talking. I used to play softball and like watching sports, especially baseball. I also love spending time walking or playing with my dog, Shadow. I also enjoy cooking and trying new recipes.

The most influential person in my life has been

I am looking for someone who is kind, trustworthy, honest and truly knows how to love someone.

The first thing people notice about me

I hope they notice that although I can be shy, I am a happy person and love to laugh!

The last book I read and enjoyed

One of the last books I read was A Thousand Splendid Suns. It's about the struggles of two women during violence and war in Afghanistan. It concentrated on the relationships of these women and how they carried them through the most difficult of circumstances.I also recently read "The Last Lecture". Knowing he was going to die from pancreatic cancer, Randy Pauch, a professor, gave his last lecture, a book of life lessons, first intended to be sort of a legacy for his children.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. Amazing family and friends. The more I am away from home, the more I appreciate the amazing parents I have, the family that's always been there for me, and the friends I can depend on.
  2. Education. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to pursue my education in a field that love and am very passionate about. I hope this means that when I finish grad school I will also have a job I am very passionate about.
  3. Living and working in Africa. The time I have spent in Africa has taught me so much about life, people, and different cultures. It has made me realize what is important in life and what things we can do without. It has challenged me to live in the moment.

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

As I child I was painfully shy. Although most of that's gone away, I still often shy when I meet new people. I wish people would notice that I truly like meeting and getting to know new people.
