More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

Children. I love looking at the world through their eyes. I love their innocent sense of wonder and enthusiasm for the little things that our cynical society can sometimes overlook. I love watching them test, respond to, and learn from the world around them, and develop from passive cuddly sponges soaking up information into active, independent thinkers with their own personalities and identities. Working with children all day can be exhausting, but the daily lessons I learn from them (and the adults who raise them) help me to appreciate the world around me and stay grounded and focused on the things that are truly important in life.

I typically spend my leisure time

Playing with my daughter, reading, watching TV (this is downtime; priorities are football, sitcoms, a few "reality" shows; nothing too intellectual.) I try not to get too sucked in by the computer, but use it daily. When I do have leisure time outside the house I enjoy live sports (especially football), the occasional movie, hanging out at the beach, hiking, yardwork (in moderation), gardening... but I'm generally up for anything and open to new experiences.

The most influential person in my life has been

An optimistic outlook and the ability to laugh at yourself.

The first thing people notice about me

I talk fast. (They notice it, because they can't understand what I'm saying half the time.) ;)

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. My family. My parents instilled in me the values that have been the foundation for my happiness and success in life, and they and my sister have been a constant source of support through some very tough times. My 4 1/2 year-old daughter constantly inspires and awes me with her bright, energetic outlook on life, and keeps me from taking myself (or anything else!) too seriously.
  2. My sense of humor. Finding the fun in little moments every day helps keep me energized and fresh through even the toughest times, and makes the good times that much better!
  3. My value system. I greatly value honesty, integrity, a strong work ethic, loyalty, sincerity, and open communication. I was raised to expect these priorities as a matter of course, and when I was younger I took it for granted that everyone important to me shared the same beliefs. I now strive to build all of my relationships (personal and professional) on a foundation of mutual respect, which allows me to be very optimistic about the future.

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

How shy I am. I tend to hide it well and put on a good front, but I relax and open up and am "myself" a lot faster if others reach out to me.
