The one thing I am passionate about...
I love theory and abstraction. I love concepts and ideas. I am passionate about making the world a better place by increasing my understanding of it, and sharing that with others. I have many interests and passions, but if I must pick only one it would be: figuring things out. I am extremely thoughtful and I really enjoy deep conversations about life, the universe, and everything. I love building a better vision of how the world works in every way, from math, science, logic, and philosophy to art, music, literature, politics, linguistics, psychology, and so on. Right now, there's little I would rather do than think, talk, learn, and teach.
I typically spend my leisure time
I most enjoy the following: trance music, running, lifting weights, tennis, watching favorite films, reading, writing, drawing, computer programming, philosophy, surfing the internet, and organizing.
The most influential person in my life has been
I seek in others what I strive for in myself: honesty, integrity, and clear values. I believe in mutual exchange to mutual benefit, in all aspects of life and especially in personal and intimate relationships.
The first thing people notice about me
The first thing people notice about me is my height: at 6'5", I tend to tower a bit. Beyond that, I think most people quickly note my easygoing manner and my genuine desire to understand.
The last book I read and enjoyed
The most profound book I've read is THE HERO WITH A THOUSAND FACES by Joseph Campbell, which is a masterpiece. I have deep affection for NEUROMANCER and ALL TOMORROW'S PARTIES by William Gibson, and also greatly enjoyed THE LORD OF THE RINGS by J. R. R. Tolkein and THE HITCH-HIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY by Douglas Adams. I have a fondness for SMALL GODS by Terry Pratchett, an appreciation for FIGHT CLUB by Chuck Palahniuk, and an affinity for THE EGYPTIAN by Mika Waltari. Honorable mentions go to 1984 by George Orwell and ATLAS SHRUGGED by Ayn Rand. There are many more titles that I've read or wish to read, but these works had the most impact.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- I'm thankful for my health and general well-being. Easy to forget, but important to remember!
- I'm thankful for my current state of mind; I worked hard to cultivate awareness, clarity, calm.
- I'm thankful for simple things like trance music, Attack From Mars pinball, and Power Sobe.
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
I do often wish that more people would notice that though I'm not shy (at all), I am technically an introvert, which means that being social is very emotionally expensive for me. I don't expect others to change to accomodate me, but it would be nice if they understood that I often have to decline invitations and spend time alone so my energy can recharge. I like being social, but I have to manage the emotional energy cost!
