More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

Jesus Christ is central. I'm a student of His truth as communicated in Scripture. I'm passionate about faith and truth and about people being treated well, and I am generous in my views of others. I care about people's souls. I'm interested in science and politics. I love good music and good books.

I typically spend my leisure time

I love to read, both novels and nonfiction, and to learn about just about everything. I study Scripture. I attend church weekly, or as often as I can. I love to be able to help people in whatever way I can, whether it be tutoring, volunteering, or just giving encouragement. I like to write. I enjoy cooking and watching DVD's. I like to take walks outdoors. Playing Wii is fun.

The most influential person in my life has been

That he walks with the Lord and studies Scripture. Of course, no one is perfect, but his ideals should be similar to mine: integrity, purity, compassion, understanding.

The last book I read and enjoyed

One of the most recent books I read and liked was Eat My Martian Dust, a collection of short Christian Sci-Fi stories. One of my favorites is Does God Believe in Atheists?, by John Blanchard, who explained the purpose of his book by saying everyone is familiar with the hard questions for Christianity (the problem of evil, the Crusades, etc.), but not very many are familiar with the hard questions for atheism (the problem of good, Pol Pot, etc.). He also introduces several important philosophies and traces how various ideas have influenced history.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. I'm thankful for the Lord and His provision for salvation and eternal life, His Scriptures, and His grace for daily living. I'm thankful that He knows we are grass, and has plans for us. I'm thankful for fellowship with His people.
  2. I'm thankful for my family and their friendship and support. I'm thankful for the values they taught and the encouragement they give. I'm thankful to live near my family of origin and my grandparents, and I enjoy having nieces. (That's not to say I would never move away, but it would take a compelling reason.) I'm also thankful for some very good friends, both near and far.
  3. I'm thankful for beauty and music. For mountains and rivers and trees, and the ocean. For campfires and guitars. For fresh air and for overstuffed chairs. For the stars. For orchestras and choirs. I'm thankful for books and the Internet. For teachers. For so much richness and beauty everywhere.

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

I sometimes look like a wallflower, but I'm actually very interested in people.
