The one thing I am passionate about...
I am passionate about being involved in what's going on in the world (I'm an NPR junkie), about conservation and restoration of prairies and woodlands (I'm also a dragonfly monitor), about justice and fairness, about creating beauty in simplicity, about laughing out loud, about grammar (I also have a master's in English), about my job as a high school counselor, about self worth and balance, about animals of all kinds (including reptiles), about strong, black coffee and good cabernet, about traveling (by car, by plane, by canoe, on foot), about finding a soul mate/a friend to share all of my passions and maybe some of his :)
I typically spend my leisure time
I do love a good walk in the prairie, watching Fringe and House, reading a great book...
The most influential person in my life has been
It's difficult to reduce it to one: I look for openness, for groundedness, someone who is confident in his own self-worth and not needing to put on a "show" to please or impress others...
The first thing people notice about me
Well, this counts as appearance, but people always comment on my green eyes (and in the summer, on my freckles--tis the curse of being part Scotch/Irish and part Swedish).
The last book I read and enjoyed
I'll list a few...Kingbird Highway by Kenn Kaufman, The Lives of Rocks by Rick Bass, The Assault on Reason by Al Gore... I don't like to critique books until others have read them and established their own opinions :)
The three things which I am most thankful for
- I am very thankful for my good friends and family
- I am very thankful for my health, my well being, my positive outlook
- I am extremely thankful that we have Barack Obama as president

A little more about me
I have two wonderful sons: one who is about to be a freshman in college (and will live on-campus) and one who is in his late 20's and lives in Naperville.
