The one thing I am passionate about...
I am so grateful for the wonders of every moment, the natural beauty of the world and the remarkable spirit of everyone in it. I deeply care about my friends, my family and my children to whom I am a very loving co-parent. I love my work... I am a professor of psychology and study consciousness. I believe that we are in reach of revealing amazing properties of consciousness that will revolutionize how we see our relationship to the universe. Although I love my work I also relish the pleasures of life- eating, drinking, dancing, etc etc (especially the etc etc). I love conversation- deep, playful, exploring laughing, and listening
I typically spend my leisure time
I love to travel to explore new places both cultural and natural beauty. But I also like doing the incredible number of things that are available to me in and around Santa Barbara- hiking, biking, swimming, going out to dinner, theatre, and music. I am an outgoing person and I enjoy seeing my many friends at parties but I also like to stay home and read or watch a movie. I just returned from a silent seven day meditation retreat and I loved it. Initially it was hard but at times I experienced a rather profound bliss and appreciation. I enjoy cultivating my mind and body through exercise, meditation, reading and reflection.
The most influential person in my life has been
I am not sure but Ill know it when I find it
The first thing people notice about me
My energy. Although I know how to relax. I have an enthusiasm for life that permeates my being and is quickly apparent.
The last book I read and enjoyed
Past lives past masters. It is a book by a respected psychiatrist documenting a patient who appeared to be remembering past lives. He started out a skeptic but became convinced. Although I think it is important to keep a critical mind, it is exciting to see that mainstream scholars are starting to consider that consciousness may extend beyond the apparent material world
The three things which I am most thankful for
- my wonderful friends and family
- having found a career that allows me to truly explore my passions
- the remarkable way in which life unfolds
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
My honesty. I am honest to a fault. Honesty is only something people can come to recognize over time, but it would be nice if from the get go people could know that if I say something I mean it, .
Friends Describe me as
Creative, Energetic, Intelligent, Outgoing
A little more about me
I am inclined to believe that if you are someone I should get to know, that somehow we will both realize it. It's of course impossible to reduce oneself to a paragraph I (like you) have many different sides that come out depending on the situation. My sides include professor (actually that is my job), rebel, gentleman, philosopher, goofball, scientist, spiritualist, go getter, procrastinator. But I also have a solid core that remains intact no matter which persona has taken central stage. I
