The one thing I am passionate about...
The happiness of the kids I raised, social justice, Obama, America now that they have voted for Obama, ntegrity and fairness, the responsibility to try to make a difference for others, teaching my students, cooking, sharing ideas, learning from and about other people, avoiding negative people, dancing, letting my friends know how great they are, my dog Toby who is an upgrade from kids, the fun I have working on a great project, New Orleans, Paris, New York, West Marin, Black history, traveling in general, people who hurt children.
I typically spend my leisure time
Dancing, hiking, cooking
The most influential person in my life has been
Curiosity about and adaptability to life
The first thing people notice about me
The only comments beyond appearance are some version of "good/positive energy". Maybe that's just in California.
The last book I read and enjoyed
I tend to read several at a time: Edgar Sawtell, wonderfully engaging, but I'm a dog lover.2 books by Edmund White - The Flaneur: A Stroll Through the Paradoxes of Paris (it changed the way I travel everywhere, wondering off the well-worn tourist path with a voyeuristic eye for the back stories) and My Lives: a memoir (the original faked bio - funny, obscene, and charming view of growing up gay in America)
The three things which I am most thankful for
- I have everything I need to be happy and am content with my life
- I feel really good about the choices I have made and their outcomes on others as well as myself
- I have wonderful friends who love and support me and who regularly both tell and show me how they feel about me
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
I am equally strong and vulnerable depending on the situation.
Friends Describe me as
Dependable, Funny, Generous, Intelligent
A little more about me
I always have had and will have friends and relatives of every color; still, being a Black woman is something I love and am thoroughly proud of and people who like me, like that about me. Though not all of who I am, my culture shapes who I am in important ways and gives me great joy to share.
