The one thing I am passionate about...
I am passionate about being part of God's work, reflecting part of what His Kingdom will one day look like into the here and now through involvement with the Church in working towards wholeness of all kinds in this world. I am also passionate about understanding God's Word and love studying it to learn more about who He is and what He is about in the world. I enjoy cross-cultural experiences - new foods, foreign languages, different dress - learning the nuances of other cultures in gesture and intonation. I love my family and am very close to them; I love how we laugh and tell stories when we're all together. I enjoy music and harmony.
I typically spend my leisure time
I enjoy reading and read voraciously in various genres (fantasy, spirituality, fiction, sci fi, biblical studies, etc.) whenever I have time. I also enjoy playing board or card games and going for walks. I enjoy getting together with friends to chat over coffee or to sing hymns or worship songs together. I like watching movies and trying new ethnic restaurants.
The most influential person in my life has been
I am looking for someone that loves Jesus. Everything else - life choices, fidelity, character, priorities - falls in line when our lives are surrendered to Him.
The first thing people notice about me
My warmth. I love people, love hearing about their lives, and am always interested in talking to new people. I also grew up in a family that is openly affectionate, so friends tend to notice that I give a lot of hugs.
The last book I read and enjoyed
I recently read The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. Although more starkly violent than my usual reading fare, the shimmering, persistent hope throughout the books and the vibrant, poignant scenes with images I can clearly picture even now make them reading I would definitely recommend. It's hard to explain what they're about without ruining the story, but suffice it to say that it is something to do with a teenage girl's coming of age in an alternate, violent universe and learning to do so with grace and self-giving.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- Knowing Jesus. This relationship shapes my identity, ethics, dreams, actions, reactions, convictions, and plans. I hope He will continue to impact all that I am and will be in ever-deepening ways throughout the years to come.
- My family. They introduced me to God, taught me the importance of understanding what and why I believe, and encouraged me to love God's children throughout the world. They continue to be my closest confidantes (my mom and sister), best source of advice and correction, most constant source of encouragement and support, and the people whose lives I most admire.
- My sense of calling. I am grateful for the clear sense of guidance I have had in my choice of occupation (doctor) and in my career plans (spending at least some time overseas).
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
I love to laugh and, when I am comfortable with my companions, enjoy making wry comments or jokes to make people laugh. Sometimes people don't notice this because I tend to be more on the reflective, serious, thoughtful, sincere side when first meeting people.

A little more about me
I like speaking Spanish and am happy to be able to do so regularly at my job; editing grammar; swing and contra dancing (although I go only about monthly); trying new foods; playing board, word, and card games; bargain shopping; teaching Bible studies; and singing worship songs in other languages.
