The one thing I am passionate about...
As a teacher, I am very passionate about my profession and working so that all children can not only achieve, but excel. Everyone has difficulties in their lives, but some children are dealt worse hands than others and their lives are more difficult through no fault of their own. I passionately believe education should help ameliorate that, and I try to work to do towards that goal daily.I also love travelling to different countries (though I haven't done as much lately as I would like), live theater, good books, and spending quality time with my friends... not terribly original passions, i know, but at least its honest.
I typically spend my leisure time
In my free time, I most enjoy spending time with friends- good friends, good food, and good conversation is a great combination! But really, as long as I am with people I enjoy, just about anything is great- going to a museum, hiking, catching a baseball game, throwing a ball around at the park, checking out a show or a movie, or just hanging out at a local pub... it's all fine with me.I also spend a lot of free time working with a local theater company, both on and off stage, which is a really fun, creative outlet. When I'm on my own, I enjoy reading just about anything i can get my hands or doing crossword puzzles.
The most influential person in my life has been
Well, being alive would be nice. But aside from that, intelligence. I really enjoy good conversation and would defininitely want to be with someone with good stories and interesting opinions.
The first thing people notice about me
My laugh. It's rather unique, but never bashful or self-conscious.
The last book I read and enjoyed
I am currently re-reading Salinger's "Nine Stories" for the umpteenth time (just because umpteenth isn't in the dictionary doesn't mean its not a word). I love his prose- it's so perfectly minimal that if one word were added or deleted, it would change the whole story. In particular, I love "A Perfect Day for Bananafish" - the end is surprising, but when you go back and re-read the story, everything you need to know is in there. Also, "For Esme- with Love and Squalor" may very well be my favorite short story ever. Absolutely beautiful, touching, and brilliant.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- Having a job that I am passionate about and enjoy.
- Having friends with whom I can laugh a lot, but if the going gets tough, we can depend on each other for support.
- Though it's had its ups and downs, I've had a pretty good life so far.
