More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I maintain a fine collection of rejection letters for the fiction I write and, yet, I keep at it. So, that must be a passion, right?I make my own beer. There's something very calming about domesticating yeast to do your bidding.I'm a bit of a live music junkie. Pretty open to everything (mosh pit to orchestra pit), but tend to lean toward the twangy - alt country, folk, bluegrass and the like. Small, dingy music halls preferred. And I'm a history buff to the extreme. Friends often pelt me with showers of beer nuts and coasters when I pontificate on our place in the context of Western Civilization. That's a turn-on, right?

I typically spend my leisure time

Besides completing endless questionnaires? Hmm - I make certain to make time with my son and with friends. Like to catch a band at the Lincoln or the Pourhouse or the Cradle. I've become all about gardening lately (which frightens me - quilting can't be far behind).

The most influential person in my life has been

I want to meet someone who's cool. Balance that with a few basic life skills like balancing a checkbook, but the general need to meet someone cool remains.

The first thing people notice about me

A dark, yet strangely compelling, sense of humor.

The last book I read and enjoyed

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. There are two parallel storylines - one about a house in which the interior is larger than the exterior; the other about a man who finds rambling documents about the house. The story's structure is highly complex; keeping the reader guessing whether the house is real or some elaborate hoax. This concludes my book report.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. That I've gained a little wisdom and confidence along the way - enough to have a firm grasp of who I am and what I want.
  2. The warmth of family & friends (copyright, Hallmark Greetings).
  3. Cheeseball answer I suppose, but I'm thankful for the basics - good health, a roof over my head, food in the fridge, a job to go to.

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

I activate my turn signal a good quarter mile before turning.
