More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

Reading, the ChildFund International child I've recently sponsored, traveling, my work, working out, Indian food, NPR...

I typically spend my leisure time

Reading, collecting old comic books, love long drives on the weekend, puttering around my house, and going to plays in NYC, spending the weekend in NYC, going out to eat or grilling on my deck. Bike riding on trails, going to the gym.

The most influential person in my life has been

A sense of humor (dry wit, a little sarcastic in a nice way), ability to be self deprecating, intelligence, kindness and empathy. OK, OK..that was not just one quality, sorry!

The first thing people notice about me

My smile, I tend to smile a lot. My communication abilities and vocabulary. My eyes.

The last book I read and enjoyed

"The Better Angels of our Nature -Why Violence Has Declined" - I know, seems the reverse from what we perceive today, but the author uses historical stats to make his case. The book starts from our evolution from hunter gatherers into settled civilizations, which he calls the Pacification Process. The consolidation of small kingdoms and duchies into large kingdoms with centralized authority and commerce, which he calls the Civilizing Process, then the emergence of Enlightenment philosophy, and it's respect for the individual through what he calls the Humanitarian Revolution...yikes, I am geeking out here, so, I'll stop...

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. Being blessed with a great job, good health, and a nice home.
  2. I feel so fortunate to be born in America [I'ved lived abroad], land of opportunity, and freedom of speech.
  3. I am very thankful for having people in my life that love me for who I am, even when I have my off days...LOL.

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

The question was a good one until the last three words of "WISH they WOULD?"...not really interested in wishing they would, having said that: I sometimes appear to be fairly conservative, do not let my outward appearance fool you, I love to joke in a sly, dry wit sort of way, and sometimes I am just plain irreverent (flip...not to venerate).

Friends Describe me as

Articulate, Perceptive, Spiritual, Warm

A little more about me

I have two lovely adult daughters, been divorced for about oh, 15 years. I am originally from NYC, spent 4 years in the US Coast Guard in my youth, and then went to college after the military. My degree is in Telecommunications Software Engineering, but I enjoy the people end of my business more then the technology, so I am a "part-time geek". I like crossword puzzles, but do not spend a lot of time with them. I fantasize about hitting the "lotto" and buying my own island; I enjoy collecting old comic books. Oh yes, I read a lot, my favorite hobby is guess what? Reading!! I do acknowledge the inner mischievous and day dreaming boy in me.
