The one thing I am passionate about...
I enjoy history and learning about others generally. When I say "history" I am not just referring to certain historical events, I also mean that I like learning about my own history, your history, and how you or others have come to where you are in life.My appreciation for history has fueled my interest in travel. I only started traveling overseas fairly recently and would like to travel more. It has really demonstrated to me our common humanity and that everyone really wants the same basic things in life.
I typically spend my leisure time
I enjoy getting together with friends, either sharing dinner or having a glass of wine. I am fairly disciplined (for the most part!) about going to the gym, because I feel that maintaining fitness is integral to physical and emotional health. I also enjoy museums, reading, and learning about you!
The most influential person in my life has been
I'm looking for a genuine, down-to-earth person who has an awareness of others and the wider world. Someone who is kind and can see value in all people. If that is not enough, I think good humor is very important--but I also appreciate someone who can be serious when the time (or situation or event) calls for it.
The first thing people notice about me
Many people tell me that I am very "warm"-- I think that means approachable and genuine. People appear very comfortable talking to me or seeking my advice. I am a good listener, and I think that is because I am sincerely interested in understanding people's complexity and what motivates them.
The last book I read and enjoyed
Another tough question. Before I went to Spain, I read a book (non-fiction) called the "Dogs of God". The book was about the Inquisition and its long-term influence in Spain and the rest of the Mediterranean. I really enjoyed learning about medieval Spain and how people of different backgrounds lived together and created a flourishing culture. What I liked is that the book made history come alive for me and motivated me to seek out certain towns in Spain where certain events took place. It also made me feel lucky to live in the time and place where I live.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- I'm grateful for my family and close friends with whom I can laugh, share, and care for-- even in difficult times.
- I am thankful that I have good health, and I work hard to maintain it.
- I feel grateful that I find meaning in my work. I feel productive, and believe my contributions are valued.
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
My close friends and co-workers tell me I am funny-- but it is not something that someone would notice the first time they meet me. I can laugh at myself and certain situations, and I think that disarms people.

A little more about me
I am trying to be more "mindful" of my surroundings and the people around me so that I can better appreciate the small things we all encounter every day.
