More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

Meditation and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.I have been practicing Vipassana meditation (from the Burmese Therevada Buddhist tradition) since 2008. I have a daily practice and sit usually for 2 hours a day. Why I make room for this practice and the benefits I've received from it require a longer conversation!Brazilian jiu jitsu is a martial art that I've been practicing for around 4 years. Its a great physical as well as mental challenge. One of my goals in life is to earn my black belt.

I typically spend my leisure time

I spend a good deal of time in the gym training brazilian jiu jitsu and also mixed martial arts. I also like being outdoors and have explored the hiking trails around the bay area. At some point I want to take an extended break and travel to some choice destinations. Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand are on the top of my list.

The most influential person in my life has been

A strong spiritual base, someone who values health (physical and mental) above anything material, a hard worker, and someone who is ok with being unconventional.

The first thing people notice about me

My laugh. People like to make fun of it which just makes me laugh more.

The last book I read and enjoyed

The Lean Startup by Eric Ries. My brother has a technology startup and just read the book to get into his world a little bit. Good read!

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. My family and friends who are like family.
  2. Being in good health
  3. My meditation practice

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

I have some pretty alternative angles to some aspects of my life. For example, one of my medium term goals is to have a home with enough land to grow my own food (I'm a semi-skilled gardener but looking to improve!). I'm a vegan for various reasons, the principle one being for animal rights. I also think alternative systems of medicine and education that are starting to emerge are the future!
