More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

Learning about critters, the body, the planet, and my inner universe. Creating art and joy; developing into a better person; science and how magical it is.

I typically spend my leisure time

I like to put on comfortable shoes, go outdoors to beautiful or interesting places, and take pictures of them. I also like to cook delicious meals for people, make little plants grow, and read books about science or philosophy or inane junk.

The most influential person in my life has been

Security. Not the financial kind (but that does help.) I am looking for a man who is secure with himself, and has his own pursuits that satisfy him and bring him joy.

The first thing people notice about me

Are we in the workplace? If so, then it's my calm, articulate, gentle humor. Are we being introduced at a concert? Then, probably my goofy smile and marginal sense of rhythm. Anywhere else? Likely, my total immersion in whatever I am doing.

The last book I read and enjoyed

"The War of Art" by Steven Pressfield. It's a small, easy read about breaking the barriers that detain us from doing our life's work, or responding to our greatest calling. It spoke directly to all the insecurities I have about the overhaul I've just given my life, and the big, expensive, scary undertaking of quitting a secure job and going back to school. I'll carry it with me like a little voice of reassurance for a while.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. I'm thankful for my cerebral cortex. It makes me, me.
  2. I'm thankful for the valuable resources that my parents made sure to give me, in the form of their love, lessons, and understanding.
  3. I'm thankful for my curiosity. It keeps things interesting.

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

That what is often misconstrued as aloofness is actually shyness. I'm sometimes a tough nut to crack, but there's definitely a sweet, gooey center.
