The one thing I am passionate about...
reading & writing and the power of the written word, photography/digital editing, music, travel & culture, a nice meal and maybe a couple drinks, baseball, UFC, working out/staying fit. Experiencing and learning as much as I can...
I typically spend my leisure time
reading, working out, traveling and experiencing new things, dinner &/or a couple drinks, music/concerts, Cards games
The most influential person in my life has been
I want to find someone that I connect w/ and want to work towards sharing my life with with trust and friendship as the foundation
The first thing people notice about me
Probably the first thing someone notices as they get to know me is my diversity and hopefully to a lesser extent, my intelligence. I've had a very active life with a great many experiences and have tried to use this to my fullest to learn as much as I can about anything and everything that interests me. I would like to think I can either hold my own or convincingly fake it in regard to a conversation about most anything. Whether that's true or not remains to be seen, I suppose...
The last book I read and enjoyed
I'm currently working on my MBA so it's been a long time since I've read something for pleasure, but the last book I read was The Lonely Polygamist by Brady Udall. I hadn't heard his name in a few years (he's been a professor when I studied Creative Writing at SIU) so when Amazon recommended it as 1 of the best summer reads I couldn't resist. The book was comic and quirky with vivid characters. Read a lot like a good John Irving novel. Long enough to become lost in, yet quick and light hearted to read...
The three things which I am most thankful for
- my niece and nephew for reminding me of the way the world is meant to be viewed
- the diverse experiences I've had throughout my life that have led me to where I am today
- everything that's led me to this point--both good and bad--and feeling that overall, I have no regrets or wonder what could have been
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
I can be as outgoing and conversational, or shy as my comfortability in my surroundings and this can throw people that don't know me well enough to realize what it is that dictates my extremes. I guess I've just had too many female friends over the years and seen the random stranger that comes across as 'that guy,' and as I'm a prideful creature, I error on caution when outside of my element or tend to focus the majority of my attention on catching up with friends on the rare occasion that I'm out and about...
Friends Describe me as
Ambitious, Articulate, Genuine, Intelligent
A little more about me
I'm a salaried employee by day and have a newspaper job that takes 1-2 nights per week. I'm in grad school working on my MBA online and have been in the Army National Guard for over 12 years. I also try very hard to work out as often as possible. That being said, I lead a very busy and rewarding life, but at the same time, it lacks balance and as I have my typical routines, I'm not meeting new ppl. and am struggling to realize that as you get older and burnt out of the bar scene and your friends settle down or become bogged down by responsibilities as well, it becomes harder to meet new and interesting people.
