The one thing I am passionate about...
As cliche as it sounds, life really is short. You really do not know what can happen from day to day, or from minute to minute. It's extremely important to me to not only maintain positive relationships in my life, but also make sure that the people in my life that matter most, know what they mean to me. I thank my friends for being my friends on a daily basis! Haha!
I typically spend my leisure time
I try to volunteer as much as I can. I'm on the board of directors for an amazing organization in the city that teaches youth to empower themselves and be whatever they want to be. It means the world to me. In my downtime, I love to write, or even just to brainstorm about things to write about. My writing topics tend to be real life observations about friends, family, or even just about life in general. I've been told the "favorites" of my notes have been those that I write about the interesting characters I have encountered on Chicago's lovely public transportation system.
The most influential person in my life has been
What am I looking for? Well, I'd like to meet someone with a great sense of humor who can laugh at himself as much as he can make others laugh, yet is mature and confident in his convictions. I'm also a sucker for a man that can give a great hug, and knows how to treat a woman with respect. A little chivalry can go a LONG way! Someone that enjoys life and the little things that make it so great. Someone that is just as happy to sit at home drinking wine and talking politics as he is to go out to the neighborhood watering hole, sample some beers and watch the game! Want to grab an IPA?
The first thing people notice about me
Apparently I'm very approachable. I do pride myself on being very friendly. But I find it odd sometimes that after first meeting me, many people have told me that the feel comfortable enough to tell me their entire life's story. I enjoy this quality, I've heard some interesting stories and met some of my favorite friends because of this characteristic!
The last book I read and enjoyed
Honestly the last book I read was The Catcher in the Rye. Sadly enough, I was never told to read the book in high school or college. So at the bookstore one day (yes, I'm very old fashioned and REFUSE to get an eReader. I need to curl up with a book, not a computer) I saw it and bought it. I LOVED it. As an aspiring writer, I love reading books where the personality of the narrator is so succinct, and that was DEFINITELY the case with Holden Caufield. I'm currently reading the Steve Jobs biography and I'm REALLY enjoying it.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- My family. Coming from a divorced home, I feel EXTREMELY fortunate to have a family as close as mine. My brothers are some of my best friends. Even my extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins are extremely close knit. Imperfections abound, but I feel lucky to have so many people care about me as much as they do. And vice versa.
- My friends. I've always found the evolution of friendships to be extremely fascinating. I have A LOT of friends and hold my friendships in very high regard. I have been told by many, that I am "everyone's best friend." While I enjoy this role, I'll fully admit that I'm sometimes too nice. I've learned so much about life, love, from the amazing friends I've made throughout my life. And for all the good and bad, I am who I am today largely because of these wonderful people.
- My easygoing nature. I get along with just about everyone. My old roommate told me once that she liked bringing me to parties because she didn't have to babysit me, and by the end of the night, I knew more people than she did. It's just really easy for me to be social and I've always been really outgoing. I make friends easily, so you would think I would have found someone by now.... Hmmmm.... :)
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
I have a very serious side. I'm definitely a jokester and an artist of sarcasm, but I also have a very serious side as well. I am very intellectual, well-educated, successful and passionate about my career and hobby (writing). I enjoy keeping up on what's going on in the world and in my local community and I volunteer as often as I can for all sorts of different community organizations. I think it can best be summed up on my magazine subscriptions: Chicago Magazine, Whole Living, TIME and US Weekly! Haha!
Friends Describe me as
Funny, Genuine, Loyal, Outgoing
A little more about me
I'm really ready to take that next step in my life. I'm serious about getting to know someone that is looking for something more than just "someone to hang out with." I think I've accomplished a lot in my life both personally and professionally and I'm extremely proud of that. Now I'm looking for someone like-minded to share it with.
