More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I love music, literature, and writing. Lately I've gotten into writing creative nonfiction, but I also love to compose poetry and fiction on occasion. I'm also really into movies, especially ones that make you think and surprise you in some way. I love dark humor and irreverance of all kinds!

I typically spend my leisure time

Most of my time during the school year is occupied with teaching-related tasks and coursework for my masters degree in English. However, during the summers I love to swim, sleep in, read, write creative nonfiction pieces, play a little piano, shoot pool, and drink beer. I love watching and betting on NFL football too. Most of my leisure time is spent with a few very close friends, watching movies or playing pool. I spend a lot of time watching Seinfeld reruns and Curb Your Enthusiasm episodes.

The most influential person in my life has been

I want someone who is genuine, trusting, and honest about who they are and what they want. It's important to me that he is self-aware and listens to opinions that are different from his own with an open mind.

The first thing people notice about me

On first meeting me, most people would say I'm shy. However, if I open up to a person, they would probably remark on my sense of humor and/or "brutal" honesty.

The last book I read and enjoyed

I recently got around to reading Stephen King's Firestarter. I didn't think I'd like it, but I was hooked and ended up finishing it in four days. I like weird stories, I guess. What did I like most about it? It didn't have anything to do with teaching and it wasn't something I HAD TO read :)

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. close relationships with family
  2. long-term friendships with people I can trust and depend on when it matters
  3. my personality, including a fair and impartial nature, which helps me with my job

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

My intelligence. Granted, I downplay it usually because I don't want to come off as some pretentious snob, but a lot of people think that because I'm quiet and laidback that I don't have strong opinions and something to say. Then, they are usually taken off guard when I DO speak up.
