The one thing I am passionate about...
Jesus. Absolutely. After that, linguistics and cultural studies. I have at least two whole shelves of books dedicated to them. I have a master's degree in intercultural studies (emphasis in Islamic studies) at a seminary and am called to be a missionary in the Middle East (I find the Middle East - and Arabic food! - fascinating). I also love literature and science, especially biology (which was my undergrad major).
I typically spend my leisure time
I love to read (when I have time) and I love to cook and bake. I also love having coffee/tea with people (my ideal job would involve getting paid for it), hanging out with friends, and being nerdy with people.
The most influential person in my life has been
Besides love of God and a similar direction in life (I've always felt called to the mission field, though that can look a million different ways and does not necessitate being abroad), I am looking for loyalty. Nerdiness is also a definite plus. Also, being supportive of women in leadership roles and ok with non-stereotypical gender roles.
The first thing people notice about me
I am a confident, strong woman who knows who I am. I am eclectic/quirky, well educated, and totally nerdy (personally, I like to call myself eccentric). I am totally comfortable in my own skin. I have been told that this intimidates guys, but I like that because I want a guy who thinks it's awesome and has the balls to do something about it.
The last book I read and enjoyed
I like fantasy, some sci-fi, historical fiction, and non-fiction linguistics and theology books. I also love the classics (Dickens, Austen, Wilde, etc. Shakespeare is definitely the best writer EVER). I don't read very many books these days, though, mostly articles on a wide variety of topics from sources like aeon, nautil.us, and the Guardian. I like to stay up to date with current events and to broaden my knowledge base.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- My saviour, Jesus Christ, what he did for me on the cross, and the grace and love he gives me each day.
- My family, their love, and support.
- My good friends, their wisdom, and unconditional acceptance.
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
I'm not as quiet as I first appear to be nor as certain as I apparently come off.
