More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

My family is grown, so I have time to enjoy my interests which are traveling to historic places, especially Civil War battlefields, and I enjoy Nascar races and hockey. I am an accomplished photographer and love documenting my travels. I love camping and light hiking, watching animals, and enjoy just being in Nature. My job as a college advisor gives me the opportunity to help young people realize their talents and achieve their goals. I also enjoy making things--knitting, sewing, and even carpentry. I play a little guitar and have sung in choirs most of my life.

I typically spend my leisure time

I am a Civil War enthusiast, and love to read and watch documentaries to learn more about it and go to reenactments. I also enjoy NASCAR races and camping--love the outdoors. I love to travel to new places in the US, either road trips or flying, and would like to travel by RV some day. I've been to 44 states, and hope to make all 50! I like to knit and make things--I'm pretty handy. I like cars and automotives in general, as well as gardening and playing with my cats and dog.

The most influential person in my life has been

A good nature, willing to share and experience the good things in life. Honesty and respect are important qualities, and a sense of humor is totally necessary!

The first thing people notice about me

I'm friendly and helpful, generally cheerful, I have many interests and can share many experiences with people I meet.

The last book I read and enjoyed

"For Cause and Comrade--Why They Fought" (Civil War letters) by James McPherson. It was an inside look at what soldiers were thinking and feeling,. It was very revealing and moving. I am currently reading "Confederates in the Attic", by Tony Horwitz--an entertaining and sometimes disturbing look at Civil War reenactors and some small-town southern views of that war.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. I'm thankful that my grown children are healthy and productive.
  2. That I have a cheerful, creative outlook on life and I'm able to be adventurous, to learn about things that interest me.
  3. I'm thankful for my career, which allows me to help young people fulfill their academic and career goals.
