The one thing I am passionate about...
I enjoy creating things, both digital content and physical art. I also enjoy games. This includes PC games, board games, table top games, D&D, etc. That said, I have a special passion for creating games. I do 3D animation and coding for PC games as well as making new board games. The last few years I have done more PC game development, but I still appreciate a good board game.I enjoy movies, but love books. Classic science fiction (Asimov, Heinlein, and Niven) is close to my heart, though I still have a special place for classic fantasy like Tolkien.
I typically spend my leisure time
I enjoy making things, and I enjoy games. I have a special fondness for making games, and for games about making things. I especially love modding Minecraft... Making a game about making things is almost as good as it gets.I also enjoy sharing the games I enjoy with my children. I see multiplayer games as a social activity and I like to include my kids when I can. The kids and I play a lot of Minecraft together. Not all my activities are on the computer. The kids and I also go to Karate twice a week, and I play guitar (very badly). I also enjoy low maintenance pets (Fish, Turtle, Snake) that don't make messes.
The most influential person in my life has been
At her very core she should desire to understand. Every person and every idea is a puzzle to unlock.I work as a programmer because I enjoy problem solving as much as I do making my ideas come to life. I'm looking for someone with that same passion for creativity. She should enjoy thought provoking puzzles and challenges as much as I do and be quick to play "devil's advocate" to nearly any idea just because it's both important and fun to understand both sides of any idea.
The first thing people notice about me
I'm a geek. Thorough bred pure geek, through and through. I enjoy science fiction and computers, and it shows. I read a lot, and never hesitate to look up any topic I'm curious about. When I'm sure about a topic I'm quick to speak my mind, but I also know the limits of my own knowledge and understand that everyone has a lesson to teach.A lot of my time is behind a keyboard, but I do have a life outside of my computer. I enjoy movies, love reading, and have a passion for learning new things.
The last book I read and enjoyed
Time Like Infinity, by Stephen Baxter. His writing style reminds me a lot of the Larry Niven books I read growing up. It's a little dry, and I don't think he understands people as well as most other authors, but he has a passion for extreme physics and hypothetical situations.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- My two children. A boy 10 and a girl, 10 and 7 years old. They are a bottomless well of inspiration and love, no matter how much work they are.
- The many challenges and opportunities (often the same thing) that have made me who I am, both personally and professionally.
- The internet. It has changed not only how we communicate, share, and entertain ourselves, bet even how we think. We live in a new world of constant connectivity.
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
I'm a closet adrenaline junkie. I'm not overly reckless, but I enjoy roller coasters, sling shot chairs and anything else that can give me a few seconds of excitement. I spent years in Iraq living on edge in a dangerous environment. The waiting was terrible and could go on for weeks sometimes, but when something actually happened the surge of fear was intoxicating. I don't need to test death daily, but I do enjoy recapturing just a small slice of that rush every once in a while.
Friends Describe me as
Easy-Going, Intelligent, Loyal, Thoughtful
A little more about me
I spent four years in Iraq. One as a soldier and three as a contractor. I've seen amazing and terrible things, but the most changing of all is living without the countless amenities we are oblivious of here in the safety of our homes. Living with nothing in an unforgiving environment made me truly appreciate what I had, but it also taught me what I really didn't need. We have so much we think we need, and yet we take the most important things for granted.
