The one thing I am passionate about...
I am passionate about helping other people and the natural world, and feel lucky to be employed in an area where I can on a daily basis. I grew up on a commercial cattle ranch and have a strong passion for producing enough food to decrease poverty, while conserving resources in a good way.I love photography. You will always find my smile when I am behind the camera. My subjects are usually elusive Great Plains wildlife and scenery. I have taken thousands of photographs and feel lucky to have published many.Cycling is my daily exercise and a great stress reliever after work. I have biked across Iowa on a tour and loved it!
I typically spend my leisure time
I really enjoy finding good restaurants with live music and dancing. Doing these activities with friends and family is always a plus.Anything outdoors. Whether it's fishing a river or walking in a new park, sports, birding, or cycling on the open roads, I really enjoy the outdoors.I love reading, cooking, and playing guitar at home if I do not feel like going out.
The most influential person in my life has been
I appreciate good listeners. It is important to me to be able to understand perspectives, and engage in meaningful and intelligent conversation. Though it's also equally important to be able to laugh and smile about the little things too. And having a broader appreciation for helping people and understanding the world around them, while having a balanced approach to work/life dynamics is also important to me.
The first thing people notice about me
People always notice my height. Some may fail to notice I adapt well to new situations and have a nice smile.
The last book I read and enjoyed
It was a heavy read, but I last read "War" by Sebastian Junger. The book is a personal account of an embedded journalist trying to understand the stress and challenges of the new era of combat our troops face. Ask me more later. I usually read poly sci, law, and envir policy books and online journals. There is a grip of fiction I am missing out on, but I am open to suggestions. Since DC, I read more weeklies like Time, The New Yorker, and The Economist
The three things which I am most thankful for
- I am thankful for my health and good genetics. Health is almost everything.
- And family followed by friends is everything to me. I have an amazing family i spend quality time with and my small close knit group of friends are the best.
- I am thankful for my education, which is the supreme global status many lack. Both degrees taught me how to keep learning and I want to put them to the highest possible use and do good for broader groups. I have worked so hard to achieve both, but this was only possible because of the first two above listed.
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
That I am well versed in gardening and ranching, and most people don't have a background in this area so it's tougher to communicate my background initially. These are lost skills and one unique thing I can provide to a partner is the ability to always supply her with quality and amazing produce and beef. One of my bosses had a unique perspective on dating, and it came to a point where she only considered guys if they could grow food, hunt, and fish and provide for her. But it's not just about the production end, my career and interest are heavily invested in the policy and science behind food security.
Friends Describe me as

A little more about me
I am passionate about my career field and have big goals in life. I plan to really take my time in learning about you and your passions/goals.Love: pop corn, pizza, coffee.I dream to grow grapes on my grandparents farm and sell them to wine makers. Seems fitting. My great grandmother moonshined to save the farm in the 30's. I pay my own bills and am happily employed. It's very important to me that one is passionate about their work or education in whatever field it may be. I identify as a cowboy, but recently I've morphed into an envir sci, policy, and administrative one.
