The one thing I am passionate about...
Gah how do you answer this one? I love that feeling I get when people are working together to accomplish something. I almost get goosebumps. It could be folk dancing and feeling the entire group moving and being excited together. Could be watching my students working hard to write to their penpals, or put together a skit...they can be so excited. I guess I'm passionate about excitement!
I typically spend my leisure time
When I get leisure time, I tend to spend it with my family and friends, maybe over coffee, maybe hiking or doing some project together. I like being out with people. Sometimes, I go dancing (contra, swing) or biking. Trying new things is good, too. Recently, I tried indoor rock climbing and really liked it. I don't want to undervalue the joy of just being at home, either...I enjoy cooking, reading, playing piano, watching movies, hanging out with my cat.
The most influential person in my life has been
In a relationship, I'm looking for the chemistry that comes out of wanting to make each other happy and actively doing so. Part of this in knowing how to compromise so that when we do not agree on something, we still feel valued by each other. Happiness 100% of the time is idealistic, even for me, but being able to show love and care even as we disagree is invaluable.
The first thing people notice about me
The last book I read and enjoyed
I recently finished "Through the Language Glass." It's about if/how language affects how we think. The writing style was very clear, humorous at times, and led me along very logically. The author would lead me in one direction so that I'd begin to ask a question, and then he'd have anticipated it and call me out on it before answering it.I'm currently reading "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay." It's about two cousins in the 1940's who write comic books. It's also about World War II, love, child-father relations, finding meaning in life... Gah... It's got a lot going on and is witty.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- Trust in myself to be able to handle what life brings my way. Challenges can be exhilarating for me, but sometimes I take on more than I should, and in this case, I still feel confident that I'll land on my feet, even if a little bruised.
- My family. They are so supportive of me, through good and bad. I have a lot of respect for my parents and sister, and they, for me. It's just nice knowing that we care about each other.
- Having a job that I feel passionate about and rewarded by. I may go temporarily mad around exam times, but I do love working with teens. I hope they come out speaking French, but even if not, it makes my day to see them opening up to different cultures and ways of thinking.
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
I feel like I come across as a bit shy at first. Friendly, but it doesn't do justice to the playful side that comes out later.
