More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

Pursuit of wisdom, remaining satisfied with what I have without becoming complacent, living up to the challenge of our times, and leaving this world better off than when I came into it.

I typically spend my leisure time

Listening to music be it live, at home, or in the car. Driving helps soothe any issues that might be a bother during the week. I wish I had more time to read, and as work allows, I enjoy a book in the downtime. Note I didn't say a good book. It could be trashy pulp fiction from the 30's or Harry Potter; I just enjoy keeping my brain busy. Board games fall into that last category as well.

The most influential person in my life has been

New to the area after my business was bought out by a Bay Area company. Looking for someone who shares my interests to spend some time with this holiday season. Would love to find a tennis/biking partner. I am not set on starting a serious relationship right away, but I'm also not opposed to the idea if things go well.

The first thing people notice about me

My hair/beard. Nordic blood blessed me with the pale blond hair/red beard combo. Most people think that I achieve it artificially, but it's all natural. One of the few times when a man can use the line, "Yes. They're real." I could also play a fairly historically accurate Hamlet...if I was an actor.

The last book I read and enjoyed

Odd story here. I read Jonah Leher's book "Imagine" right before he collapsed into a pile of shenanigans related to his creative use of other's works and even his own. I did enjoy it because it convinced me that taking baths was a productive use of my time and that trying to be creative (e.g. brainstorming meetings etc) was positively asinine. Creativity is a process which takes time, and even if he was a charlatan for significant portions of the book, I believe it was a worthy endeavor.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. My Hands - They allow me to be creative in my free time and be productive while I'm working. Whether it's music, washing a car, or holding on to someone I care about, my hands help me to simply (split infinitive) enjoy life.
  2. Music - From classical to jazz to hardcore punk, music has been the way I get through the tough times. I'm a voracious fan of pretty much any genre that doesn't get put through a computer vocal correction machine. I'm not a snob, though. Even if someone puts on Britney Spears or Kanye West, I'm still going to give it a listen. Doubtful that I'll buy the album (do people even do that anymore?), but I'm open minded nonetheless.
  3. Driving - No matter what's going right/wrong, I can grab my keys and hop in a car with some music...it all just fades away. Straight line speed doesn't do much for me; I live for the corners and the combination of power and control.

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

I am an acquired taste. I do have a nasty habit of coming off abrasive or uninterested. I chalk it up to the fact that my mind is usually in many places, none of which are where I am at in the typical social situation (bar, party, sporting event). However, once you have my attention, I usually find that I'm an enjoyable companion. I am a master of the art which so many men are criticized for: listening. I do care about your day...as long as there's something to care about.
