More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

My biggest priority in life is to laugh as much as possible. It's the most perfect passtime... Meanwhile, I am most passionate about creating - whether it's music, cartoons, short personal essays or something that makes my kitchen more practical. I'm pretty passionate about staying healthy and leaving less of an environmental footprint. I am also super passionate about spending time with people and keeping more of a balanced perspective on things that leaves room for a the professional and personal sides of life.

I typically spend my leisure time

I absolutely love spending time with friends when I have downtime. I can remember when I first moved to LA and felt like I didn't know a soul and it was pretty crushing for awhile. Flash forward 11 years and I feel like I have a strong network around me of people who genuinely want to know how I'm doing while sharing a bottle of wine. It's my favorite thing...

The most influential person in my life has been

I really want to be with someone who is happy and genuinely content. Someone who can interact with people from a non-judgmental and appreciative place...

The first thing people notice about me

I hear that my laugh is the first thing that people notice aside from my sense of humor. It's all very hard to hide....

The last book I read and enjoyed

The last book I read was "The Year of Magical Thinking" by Joan Didion. I have no idea what took me so long to find Joan Didion and start devouring her work. I've been in a creative nonfiction writing class for a little over a year now and Didion makes me want to go back and re-work everything I ever wrote. I can't recommend her enough...

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. I am more thankful for the friends in my life than anyone else on the planet. I've lived in a small handful of places all over the country and have thankfully found close lifelong friends in every town and city that I've ever called home. That is a truly rare gift....
  2. I am so thankful for my crazy conservative upbringing. I was raised by music leaders in the Pentecostal church (think Jesus Camp meets touring indie band meets Broadway) so you can only imagine the stories I have in my back pocket. I have little in common with my immediate family now but it's made me a solid musician, comedian, and human being. It also makes for a great story.
  3. I am so thankful for skirts and dresses. I know it sounds petty but I very rarely wear pants. No joke. I just don't wear pants. I'm even thinking about returning the jeans I just bought at the Gap even though they're the only jeans I own. I just hate pants. If it weren't for skirts and/or dresses, I simply do not know what I would wear - especially in winter.

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

I am loyal and empathetic almost to a fault. I take after my mom in that sense and I tend to rally the most when things get the hardest. I don't think this comes across until a difficult situation actually comes up but I wish it were something more people knew and understood about me.

A little more about me

I'm pretty quirky and offbeat. I often think I'd be better off with someone from the midwest or pacific northwest only because I like living for more than my career, youth, appearance, and exposure. But I live in LA and would rather meet someone here. And I very rarely wear pants. Skirts and dresses are the order! ;)
