The one thing I am passionate about...
Music -- classical, bluegrass, some jazz; good literature -- the New Yorker, well-written fiction; social entrepreneurship -- what can we do to make the world a better place in a way that will be sustainable? I also love being outdoors, dogs (the right cat, too) and a good game of Scrabble.
I typically spend my leisure time
I don't feel that I have a lot of leisure time -- Ialways have things to do. For those few hours a week that I carve out for myself, I turn on some classical music and see what I have been missing in the New Yorkers that have piled up. Or more like it, I turn on the music, cook a good dinner, pour a glass of wine and then go for something good to read...
The most influential person in my life has been
I'm looking for someone is smart, who reads and is open to new ideas... who likes languages and using language well... who likes to travel, see the world, discover new things and get to know new people... who finds alot of humor in life and takes things in stride... who's not afraid to admit mistakes and laugh at them...who is doing something to make at least some small corner of the world a better place
The first thing people notice about me
I smile alot.
The last book I read and enjoyed
8.Kathryn Schulz, Being Wrong: Adventures in the Margin of Error (2010) --a very insightful, entertaining book. It opens with a discussion of why it is so much fun to right and so unsettling to be wrong, quoting Moliere: ?It infuriates me to be wrong when I know that I am right.? However, the book concludes that, however ?disorienting, difficult or humbling our mistakes might be, it is ultimately wrongness, not rightness, which can teach us who we are.? A great book!
The three things which I am most thankful for
- My family -- children, brothers and their families & cousins
- The many opportunities I've had in life: a good education, the opportunity to travel and get to know other cultures, an interesting and varied professional life
- The ability to adapt to changing circumstances and to appreciate what I have at any particular moment.
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
I am less traditional than I appear. If people don't notice that right away, that's ok, but if they don't figure it out, that's a problem.
Friends Describe me as

A little more about me
I lived for outside of the US for a number of years, I like to travel, and I consider myself a citizen of the world, as much as a citizen of the United States. I like foreign languages and would like it if a future partner could speak a language in addition to English and had had the experience of living in a foreign culture. My politics are fairly liberal, and I prefer a modest life-style. I am interested in ideas and would like to think that, when all is said and done, I have made the world a better place.
