The one thing I am passionate about...
I'm a leader in my church. Caring for people and drawing them closer to God is a big part of my life. The practice of hospitality. Adventure is a deep part of who I am. Offroading in my Jeep, riding motorcycles, backpacking, hiking, adventure travel, and sailing are some examples. Someday I hope to take a few years off and sail around the world actually! Having a home in the city and a piece of land in a rural setting so my family can enjoy the positive aspects of both environments is important to me. Beauty in all forms appeals to me. Specifically fine art, music, food and drink, nature, and beautiful craftsmanship in boats and cars.
I typically spend my leisure time
If I had to narrow it down to three items, I'd say 1. Spending time with my friends. 2. Doing something adventuresome in the outdoors. This connects with my love of natural beauty. 3. Intellectual and cultural pursuits. (Reading, art, food and drink, discussion about God, philosophy, politics and books.) 4. Hosting events at my house. I like being hospitable to others.
The most influential person in my life has been
Emotional availability and an outgoing personality. Someone who is proactively oriented towards others and me is very attractive. Conversation and intimacy are important to me and while I'm good at making those things happen, I like it when my partner initiates as well. The confidence it takes to volunteer oneself inter-personally is sexy. Intelligence is very important. Finally, I'm hoping for someone who knows how to encourage me. A 'cheerleader' in the best possible sense. I really appreciate aesthetically sensitive, creative and artistic women. I also like women who see life as an adventure and who can be my intellectual p
The first thing people notice about me
I like good discussion and I'm very curious by nature. I'm interested in a host of things and I like to ask specific questions of people to get them talking. It makes them feel appreciated, and I do genuinely enjoy learning as much as I can from them. I'm also very affectionate and smile a lot.
The last book I read and enjoyed
"Desiring the Kingdom" by James K. A. Smith. It's about how our culture shapes us into lovers of different visions of the Kingdom of God. Our culture has many ways and methods in which it teaches us to love various things, some good, some bad. This book is about becoming aware of what we're being taught to love, and ultimately forming communities that teach us to love and hope for the Kingdom of God above all. It's also a lot more than that, but I don't want to go on forever. :-)
The three things which I am most thankful for
- I'm thankful that God is present in my life. I'm a Christian, and I try to keep Christ at the center of everything I do. Being a Christian means we live a different way than most of the world, and that we encounter the world with hope, good humor, and love. In Christ I have hope that I, the people I love, and the world will someday be restored and ruled by Christ, the good and perfect King. Christ in my life means I have hope that I don't have to stay the same way forever, that I have hope for growth as well. Christ in my life means I have a community of people to love and who love me, that is, the Church.
- I'm thankful for my friends. They are the best people I know. We push each other to be better, stronger, wiser, and godlier men, and they're unfailingly loyal to me. We've been through a lot together and I wouldn't trade them for the world. We also have a lot of fun together, adventuring and seeing the goodness of God.
- I'm thankful for the intellectual, artistic, architectural, musical, culinary, and religious inheritance of Western civilization. I don't dislike or disdain other cultures, I just happen to like mine a fair bit. Cultural pursuits are important to me, as is travel. The more I read, am educated, and discover, the more thankful I become for the freedoms and blessings we have in the West.
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
I'm trying to be like a good blend of Mr. Darcy, Jesus, and John Wayne.
Friends Describe me as
Affectionate, Intelligent, Loyal, Thoughtful
A little more about me
First, I am changing careers. I have a Master's Degree in Theology, and plan on getting my Ph.D later in life (writing and pastoring are near to my heart). For the time being I am becoming an RN and then a CRNA. This process will be part of the new few years of my life. Hopefully that doesn't scare you off. Second, I have many unique interests. I hope we have fun. Also, I am normally very attentive to grammar, spelling, punctuation, and the like. However, something about the eHarmony email interface often foils my attempts at editing. Please don't judge me if you see a few spelling or grammatical errors in my emails! :-)
