More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I have a horse and l love going to the barn. I enjoy gardening, yoga, and running. I am running my nexthalf marathon in March. It's a bit embarassing, but I also like to knit.

I typically spend my leisure time

I do a fair amount of running. It clears my mind. I spend time each week practicing and teaching yoga and find that it is also clarifying. I spend time gardening and have better luck with flowers than vegetables.

The most influential person in my life has been

Chemistry and communication.

The first thing people notice about me

I really do not know but I will ask around. If I ask my students, I'm likely to get some very fascinating answers so I'll revise for their insights...

The last book I read and enjoyed

The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid is about a fellow from Pakistan schooled in America. It is in the second person, which is very unusual for literature. It is an apt work in relation to Hosseini's texts that have been very well received in the West. My students are handling the material well; of course, next, we're studying Macbeth and then Tess by Hardy. In another few weeks, without a snow day, senioritis will make itself known...

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. I'm grateful for my work as a teacher and my intellectual relationships with my students.
  2. I'm also thankful for my health and well-being.
  3. I appreciate my relationships with my friends and family.

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

I tend towards listening, so I don't claim the center of attention. When I do feel strongly about something, and assert those ideas, I've usually sorted through whether or not I am attached to what others think, so wanting someone to notice one particular quality is not really critical for me since it matters more to me that there's an evolution to a relationship, whether it is with a new colleague or a new student or someone new in my yoga community or a new loved one.

A little more about me

I usually see a play at the Folger once a year and love love love to go to the Nat Gallery of Art. I used to want to work at a museum but maybe I should just take painting classes.
