More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I am most passionate about my family and friends, learning more about art (especially visual art, books, and movies), nature, food, travel, social commentary, culture, technology, and helping people whenever I can.

I typically spend my leisure time

I love to go out and discover a new place to eat with friends, or get excited about seeing a good movie or an art exhibit. I also love to walk - whether it's a formal hike or discovering a new neighborhood/area in the city.

The most influential person in my life has been

Kindness, intellect, and humor are the top three (kinda hard to choose just one - hope you'll indulge me). But kindness is always first.

The first thing people notice about me

I'm a little shy. That isn't to say I don't speak up or not hold my own (because I definitely do), but sometimes I need a moment to take everything in before I say or do anything. That said, I love being with people and doing things with others - I'm social, just not overt.

The last book I read and enjoyed

The last book I read was "Bossypants" by Tina Fey. Although I usually read a lot of fiction, lately I've been reading a lot of memoirs and autobiographies. I love comedies by Tina Fey, from "30 Rock" to "Date Night." It was very interesting to read about her childhood and what it means to become a successful comedy writer in Hollywood - and the book itself if just a witty read. Prior to reading "Bossypants" I read "Just Kids" by Patti Smith. I love art, especially photography, and I am fascinated by Mapplethorpe. Suprisingly I knew little about Patti Smith's work until I read the book; still learning her music, but I love her prose.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. My family - they are my rock and my guide. It's mushy, but I really love my folks and my brother. I also have a huge extended family that always keeps things interesting for me.
  2. My friends! I learn so much from all of them. While I always have a pool of casual acquaintances and enjoy meeting new people, those whom I truly call my friends I usually keep for life.
  3. My health and where I live. I've traveled to other places, even lived in another country, but for me it's hard to beat the Bay Area.

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

Because I'm somewhat quiet, most folks think I'm a faint-heart flower. I actually have a ribald sense of humor, but it doesn't come out until I feel I've gotten comfortable with you.
