More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks right now. THAT WOMAN IS A HERO.

I typically spend my leisure time

Reading, ENOing, and writing. I get hooked on an author and read their work until I start to worry I'm obsessed. (And I am proudly obsessed with a few.) Reading is best when done outdoors in an ENO (portable hammock). Writing is better done inside (because pages tend to fly away). Sometimes I try to mimic the different styles I read and I'm secretly a pretty good writer myself. Always short stories because I can't seem to make the stories keep going.

The most influential person in my life has been

Someone who can have a good conversation.

The first thing people notice about me

I'm a little weird (in a don't-much-care-for-a-cell-phone, have-never-picked-up-a-fashion-magazine, likes-to-self-reference-and-use-excessively-long-hyphenated-phrases sort of way) but I have a nice smile which, apparently, makes up for the eccentricities because people are not afraid to approach me.

The last book I read and enjoyed

All time favorite: East of Eden by John SteinbeckLast book I read: The Thing they Carried by Tim O'BrienOther Fantastic Books: The Winter of Our Discontent, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Tortilla Flat, Of Mice and Men, The Pastures of Heaven, Agnes Grey, Cannery Row, Murder on the Orient Express, Sweet Thursday, Gone With the Wind, Revolutionary Road, The Moon is Down, any short story by Jhumpa Lahiri or Richard Yates (There wasn't enough room up in that other section!)

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. my current job opportunity
  2. a wonderful family and close friends
  3. Tacos

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

My CD collection is on point. People have totally written off CDs these days, but you can play them in the car, a CD player, or your computer, you can burn copies for your friends, and you have backup copies if your computer and/or the entirety of the internet crashes.

Friends Describe me as
