More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I am passionate about education, equality, and social justice. I enjoy reading and writing as I find it helps me learn more about me, about others, and the world around me. I am currently writing a book for elementary teachers with a beloved colleague to share ways to create more compassionate learners through literacy. The last 3 books I read include The Handmaid's Tale, Disrupting Thinking (a teacher book), and The Hate U Give.

I typically spend my leisure time

In my leisure time, I enjoy walking my dog, relaxing with the latest NY Times Best Seller in my hammock, or grabbing a drink and a bite to eat at one of the many awesome restaurants and bars in Greenville and Asheville. After a long day I enjoy a cold IPA and watching my favorite TV/Netflix shows.

The most influential person in my life has been

I'm looking for a person who is honest but not crass, hard working but relaxed, compassionate but not oversensitive, and non-confrontational but willing to speak up. I would like to meet someone who is thoughtful, caring, funny, clean, organized, and someone who believes in equality and social justice.

The first thing people notice about me

People seem to notice my blue eyes first (as far as I know!) Perhaps you'll tell me what is the first thing you notice about me! :)

The last book I read and enjoyed

The last book I read was Disrupting Thinking - a book for educators that got me excited about the work I do and encourage other educators to do. I also just read the Handmaid's Tale which left me frustrated and frankly concerned about women's rights in today's society. I'm currently watching the mini-series on Hulu.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. my education
  2. my relationship with my siblings
  3. an amazing job
