The one thing I am passionate about...
My life has been full. Most of my needs have been met. I have gotten to enjoy more than my share. I'd like to enjoy it all until the end. The part that requires passion is daily considering how to take care of my needs then turn my heart & focus toward the needs of others around me. I get to father & enjoy life with my two year old son, half of the week. We make healthy meals, do chores, play, read books, garden, watch shows, & meet up with friends. I substitute teach, work at a food co-op, & work with an estate sale company. Off the clock, I repair things, plant food, explore nature, cycle, climb, write, & perform. My
I typically spend my leisure time
...with people, or in their absence...on Wikipedia, watching a film, cooking a meal, reading, writing, or listening to history, comedy, poetry, or fiction, out in the garden, kitchen, thrift shop, or hardware store learning how things work. Sunday, I hosted a poetry reading. Friday, I took myself climbing. Tuesday, I cleaned the house. Tonight, I will probably work on this profile until it feels like something I would actually tell you in person, then I'll relax at home by myself, thinking, "I'm too tired to go out & act like I'm not just trying to meet someone," or, "this is restful, but doesn't taste the same
The most influential person in my life has been
At your depths, you desire a partner to share home with, talk to, watch something with, hold/be held by, and fall asleep beside in mutual intimacy. You have read history and/or the sciences enough to believe none of the world's plethora of religions are absolutes. Today and most days you have an active mind; you used your voice, your hands, and your feet and wouldn't have had it any other way.You wish for equality, peace, sustainability, justice, and wellbeing for people. You enjoy experiencing and learning new things out of a stable place of rhythm. You're honest, all feet forward--the best foot and the other one that's yo
The first thing people notice about me
My eyes (you'd have to see me in person to understand). Openness, vulnerability, story, and magnetism.
The last book I read and enjoyed
I just finished reading Class (poems) by Deonte Osayende (a Detroit born resident author, educator, and activist). The title poem "Class" is extraordinary. Deonte is the kind of human we are all grateful for--and grateful he was given a voice to articulate all he experiences.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- Living each day with my needs met, able to focus on enjoying this life.
- The awareness that many people don't have their needs met and aren't able to focus on enjoyment
- The chance to do something every day to tip the balance for others or myself.
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
Others can't understand what they don't know. I show up in this world feeling misunderstood and/or misrepresented--I grew up in nine states and Japan (NY, NE, LA, Tokyo, MS, FL, VA, TX, OR, MI), sixteen homes by age sixteen, raised by six men and seven women. My childhood nurtured me into a different kind of person than most people can be prepared to approach in context :-). None of this stops me or slows me down. I'm not often reminded of this reality until faced with consequences of others not being able to understand, empathize, sympathize, or be mindful of me as a character in my story. MAYBE THIS IS TRUE FOR EVERYONE IN SOME

A little more about me
I'm a considerate and resourceful man who cares about people. ENFP. I father my two year old son half time--we share part of each day & have three overnights each week. His mom & I were no longer together when we found out he could exist--long story with lots of risk, wonder, pain, & joy. I substitute teach & manage a grocery co-op, preparing to teach fourth or fifth grade in 2018. Past jobs: preschool teacher, rescue mission overnight manager, farmer, builder, cook, & full time author/performer.
