More about me

The one thing I am passionate about...

I'm passionate about science and technology. I work as a software engineer, doing what I've always been excited about since I was a little kid. I'm especially interested in programming languages and tools--the software behind the scenes that facilitates the development of other software.

I typically spend my leisure time

Away from work, I enjoy walking and exploring interesting places that are off the beaten path. I enjoy taking weekend day trips to various places throughout the tristate area. As a hobby, I run a web site about roads and highways in the New York area, which meshes fairly well with that. I also enjoy reading about various interesting topics in the sciences and social sciences. I am interested in politics and follow current events.

The most influential person in my life has been

I'm looking for someone who's intellectually oriented, open-minded, and independent-thinking, who takes the important things seriously but still likes to have fun, and who's interested in a committed relationship based on mutual respect.

The first thing people notice about me

Probably that I'm a guy with a ponytail, since it's not particularly common.

The last book I read and enjoyed

The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined by Steven Pinker. It's very eye-opening as to a lot of the things they don't teach you in history class about what life was like for most of the time that people have been on this earth. It also leads one to appreciate the amount of progress we've made over how things were centuries ago, the benefits of which we often tend to take for granted.

The three things which I am most thankful for

  1. Living in a free country
  2. Getting a good education
  3. Having a job where I can work on building a great product

The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me

The fact that I tend to have different interests from a lot of people doesn't mean that I don't like to have fun. It's just that I don't find things like sports or celebrity gossip to be particularly interesting, so I'd rather spend my time on things that I do enjoy.
