The one thing I am passionate about...
I am passionate about being a good Mom to my kids even though they are 22 and 30!I am passionate about being an educator and working for better educational opportunities for kids. I love reading and staying current; reading the New York Times is a treat. I love to be outdoors, in my garden, walking, hiking, riding my bike (gentle rides). I am passionate about art: making my own and seeing art in museums and on the street. I try every day to do one thing I'm scared to do (as advised once by Eleanor Roosevelt) and I set an intention every day to try to make the world a little better in my actions.
I typically spend my leisure time
If I had the day off I have so much to do: I start with a walk or bike ride, then check in on my garden. Its lovely to have time to work on my art. I could bake and bring something sweet over to my daughter, maybe see a matinee in the afternoon. If I'm not feeling like staying home, a day in San Francisco is wonderful, or visiting a friend in Oakland and shopping or museum going, and sharing a good lunch, which should always end with something chocolate.
The most influential person in my life has been
A man who enjoys life in its many dimensions: physical, emotional and intellectual, who also has "Joie de Vivre" , by that I don't mean someone who likes to party alot, I mean someone who really has the joy and spirit of life and cares about the world around him and the lives of others
The first thing people notice about me
My smile and the way I dress
The last book I read and enjoyed
I am currently reading and very much enjoying: "You Are Not Like Other Mothers," by Angelika Shrobsdorff and my scholarly reading of the moment: : "Improbable Scholars," by David L. Kirp (Its about public schools in America)My favorite author is Barbara Pym, a deceased English gentlewoman who's novels are kindly witty vignettes of the human condition.
The three things which I am most thankful for
- My daughter and son and new baby granddaughter.
- The beautiful home I live in close to the ocean, and the flowers that grow around my house.
- My wonderful students and their families; I feel so honored to be trusted to help them.
The one thing I wish MORE people would notice about me
I have a good sense of humor and I love to laugh, even though I'm very serious about my work.
