An eHarmony Success Couple: Shelly and Matthew

An eHarmony Success Couple: Shelly and Matthew

We were introduced to each other on eHarmony, where the powers that be decided that the two of our personalities were a wonderful fit for each other. We spent a few weeks in this ‘non-traditional’ setting asking and answering questions before they both decided that we would like to meet each other in person.

We then began the ‘traditional’ dating and first date was dinner and a Bruce Springsteen concert in Cincinnati!!! We both felt very comfortable, and like we had known each other for a long time. A few days later we had our second date, where Matt searched online for a nice restaurant and other things to do that were local to my house.

Over the next few months, we spent much time together attending sporting events, going to festivals and concerts, and having double dates with friends. A few of our favorite things to do were attending many Cincinnati Reds games, concerts, and the Kentucky Derby together. Since we both work in the jewelry industry, we were in Vegas in June for the biggest trade show of the year and that is where Matt confessed his love for me, in front of the world-famous Bellagio fountains. I in turn, let him know that I felt the same way about him. The next few months seemed to fly by, and we were almost inseparable- we found ourselves together many days out of the week even though we live an hour apart. We spent the summer enjoying outdoor activities, spending time with family and friends, and vacationing together to Myrtle Beach for some R&R, and to New York City for another industry trade show.

Matt brought up the idea of taking a vacation together to Gatlinburg Tennessee since we both had been very busy over the past few months- Matt, having finished his jewelry store’s remodeling, and me being busy at work and with finishing my MBA. I thought it was odd that Matt wanted to go to Gatlinburg, but I enjoyed the idea of taking a break from our very busy and active lifestyles to relax together and get away from the norm.

Matt told me that we must arrive in Gatlinburg on November 1, 2008, no later than 4 pm in order to get the key for our luxury cabin, or else we would be charged a fee for every 30 minutes they were late. As usual, we were running late, and hit traffic as soon as we arrived in Pigeon Forge. I was at the wheel for the second half of the trip, and was performing my best driving skills so that we did not get charged (I already was already touched that Matt had gotten a nice cabin in the mountains for us).

We arrived at 4:07, and I had provided many excuses for Matt to give for the lateness, in hopes of not being charged. I then noticed that the place we had arrived did not appear to be a cabin rental place, but Matt insisted we go in together. Matt then announced that there was no 4:00 deadline, and that the salon we had just entered was a treat for me, and that he had made an appointment for me to have a massage and manicure done while he went to get the cabin and unpack for us. I was absolutely awestruck that Matt had planned such a nice surprise for me and was moved to tears by that alone, and the fact that we had just arrived in town and I would not see my boyfriend for two hours. I was not upset of course, that the rush to arrive at 4 was a trick…

Matt arrived later and said that he wanted to go back to the cabin right away before it got dark because the roads were very steep and he had left the fireplace on to warm up the cabin. I wondered why he didn’t want to stay in town for dinner first, as it had been a very long time since we had eaten… I obliged, after all- he had just given me a wonderful surprise and I was just happy to begin their relaxing vacation together. Even after having already been tricked once, I did not even think that he would be up to something else…

Upon entering the cabin, there were candles lit around the living room, and from the entryway into the cabin, there were a million rose petals on the floor, leading to a bouquet of roses and champagne glasses. I was in awe and thought that I was the luckiest girl in the world to have a boyfriend go all-out for our vacation. Matt then wanted to show me the fireplace, and I thought it was very nice, but was more concerned with looking at the interior of the cabin, as well as the wonderful smell of the candles.

Then, after having been in the cabin for a total of 90 seconds, Matt told me that he wanted to ‘talk to me’ about something, and immediately got down on one knee, telling me that he had found the girl of his dreams, how happy I made him, and that he wanted me to be with him forever as his wife. He went on to say many more endearing things, which were thoughtful and straight from the heart. My sobbing increased when Matt told me I was ‘the inspiration to his life, the spirit to his faith, and love to his heart’.

I accepted his proposal by pulling him up from his knee, nodding through my tears and saying that I would marry him ‘in a heartbeat’…

I am very proud to announce that we will be married on May 9, 2009 and will begin a wonderful life together!
