This isn’t a title I ever expected to be writing, but I’m glad I am! One can either learn from a failed relationship, or repeat detrimental patterns. In British comedian Russell Brand’s case, it seems he has actually learned from his short-lived marriage to Katy Perry.
Us reports that in a brand new interview for Australia’s “60 Minutes,” Brand finally opens up about the reason the two split after just 14 months: incompatibility.
“Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it don’t,” the 37-year-old reflected. “But if you sort of sense there’s an incompatibility, then in any relationship regardless of the status of the individual, it kind of is best to go separate ways. I think if you’re someone who’s really into mountain biking, it would be good to go out with someone who’s into mountain biking, and if you’re really into Eastern mysticism, go out with someone else who’s into Eastern mysticism,” he said. “I think if you’re a devoted tennis professional and you get married to a crystal meth addict, you might have trouble. I’ve been in a lot of trouble.”
Russell, we at eHarmony couldn’t agree more. All of the research we have done over the years has proven that compatibility is the absolute foundation to a long-lasting, happy, healthy relationship. One of our favorite quotes around the office is: “Opposites attract…and then attack.”
Russell was able to look back at his relationship and understand that a very important piece of the romance puzzle was missing. Have you been able to understand why any of your relationships didn’t work out? If so, what was the reason and what lessons have you learned from your past?
