Answering the Most Common Question about eHarmony

August 1, 2011

By

I’ve been working at eHarmony for nearly three years now and one thing hasn’t changed since day one:  the number one question I get asked when people learn that I work at eHarmony is, “Are those couples in the commercials REALLY real?” It’s a theme we hear in a lot in social media as well.  “Those are some good actors they have in eHarmony commercials.”  “People in the eHarmony commercials are too happy to be real.”

Well folks, eHarmony has only ever used real eHarmony success couples in our commercials and other advertising.  After all, with almost 5% of marriages in the United States attributable to our service, it’s not as if we’ve got a shortage of couples to choose from.   icon wink Answering the Most Common Question about eHarmony

All the same, we know that pictures speak a thousand words, and so we’re delighted to be able to share with you some wedding photos of one of our couples in our recent TV campaign (and the eHarmony.com homepage), Justin and Kate.

Unfortunately, a major downside to eHarmony is their system does not allow you to filter out prospective matches who are divorced. So a caution to never married people would be to avoid this service if you prefer dating people who haven’t been in failed marriages.

Wow Doug! While I agree with you that such information should be disclosed I have to take exception to your comment of “failed marriages.” Just because a marriage doesn’t work out doesn’t mean that the person doesn’t know how to resolve conflict. Everyone makes mistakes and a marriage can be one of them. If you’ve chosen someone you weren’t compatible with after all it would be foolish to continue. Many people are on here because they WANT to make sure they chose more wisely. I personally AM looking for a divorced person who has children because they can better relate to my situation and the issues that go along with it. So while you want to filter out divorced people I am wanting to filter out never married people. I can’t help but wonder what’s wrong with someone who is middle aged and never married. So as you can see, there are both sides to the issue.

This post vividly illustrates exactly why eharmony members should be provided with a more selective matching system.

avoid eharmony if female over 55 and liberal

    • Edie Rappaport

Why? I’m a wayyy over 55 yo, very liberal East coast gal and have met a sweetheart of a fellow….a successful midwest farmboy with a big heart and open mind. We take each other for who we are. Just as I believe in seperation between church & state, I believe in seperation between politics & the bedroom. I want a man, not a political clone.

My boyfriend and I have been together for over 2 years and talking about marraige. Eharmony does work!

In the 1 month that I have been a member, I have had no more than 10 views of my profile. Why? I believe it is my age. Unlike other services where you are presented with a photo, before viewing a profile, E-Harmony only shows name, age and location. That’s not enough to prompt interest. Being a 68 yr. old female, I am being ‘put out to pasture’, before being given a chance. Even the guys who are OVER 70 don’t look at a woman over 65. Trust me, many of us ‘over 65′s’ could give a 60 yr. old gal a run for her money, if given a chance.

Carol … What can I say? Some (many?) guys just don’t get it. Some of us understand that women of a certain age can be a lot more fun and interesting than some spring chicken. Do you really want to date some guy who’d rather have some arm candy than a real relationship? Unfortunately, you’re a seller in a buyer’s market but that doesn’t mean the right guy won’t come along; it just may take a while. Good luck.

My fiance andI are KIND OF an eharmony couple :) We had been dating for a year or two when we decided we wanted to get married. I knew he was the one! after three years of being together, we decided we were finally gonna do what we had wanted to do for a really long time, and that would be: Making an eharmony profile (each of us) and no cheating or talking about it before we submitted anything and seeing if we get eachother! It was crazy but we did it. We are now engaged to be married… SOON (haha) and have been together for three and-a-half years. Oh, and he was my ONLY match on my eharmony matches :) We were sooo happy. EHARMONY WORKS PEOPLE! :D

I’m hoping Eharmony helps. Hope Springs Eternal!

I’m happy for all of you who met through eharmony. My wife and I met through eharmony in 2004, married in 2005, but now unfortunately just got divorced this month. I’m happy that eharmony brought us together (we were a very good match) and sad it didn’t work out, but that’s how life goes sometimes.

Being compatible is a good starting point, but marriage/relationships require(s) a lot of work, so make sure you keep working at it. I wish you all the best!
